I was - privileged isn’t really the right word here, but it’ll do - privileged to be hired back at the end of last year as part of the final editing and proofing team for Robert Francis QC’s inquiry into the West Staffordshire Hospitals Trust, and the horrors that occurred in its remit in the last decade.
It’s not hard reading, as these things go, and if our health service matters to you, you should know about it, because it’s a terrifying and hopefully instructive example of what happens when you take a public sector organisation and try to treat it like a profit-bearing business.
And these things may yet be going on elsewhere in Britain.
